The St. Marks and St. Andrews Parish gathers twice annually for special days. The Awesome Awapuni Day is a large festival held at Alexander Park (off Alexander Street between College and Rugby) that celebrates the neighbourhood. The church joins other groups with a booth that provides flowers, cookies, and other gifts to share, along with a handout that describes the congregation’s life and serves as an invitation. Hundreds attend the festivity and friends see each other at least annually. See photos of the event in 2015.
Our Family Fair was held on Saturday 19 March 2016 and was the church’s way of greeting the Awapuni neighborhood as well. The Fair was held on the St. Marks campus at 117 College Ave. in Palmerston North. The affair uses every corner of the campus: the sanctuary, the hall and the large grass area outside. There were activities for children and adults hosted by our Parish, including the Korean congregation, and the Tongan congregation that worships at St. Marks.
Included in the arrangement was a place for prayer and one-on-one visits with the pastor, a BBQ, a magic show, booths with clothes and white elephant items for sale, exhibits and demonstrations for neighbors to share their talents with each other, and generally, an opportunity for a good time together.
The money raised was divided between the Hospital Chaplaincy and The Women’s Art Initiative Programme, which provides art as a medium for abused women to put their experience in visible form.
